Burnsville Center
Burnsville Center opened in 1977 in Burnsville, Minnesota. The four original department stores were Dayton's, Donaldson's, JCPenney's, and Sears. (Like Ridgedale Center, no relation)
In 1987, like other malls in the area who housed Donaldson's, the stores closed their doors and welcomed Carson Pirie Scott, but 8 years later in 1995, the same thing happened to Scott and Mervyn's took their place. Mervyn's lasted for a good 9 years before they had to close their midwest stores. New-York City-based, Steve & Barry's took interest into the location and was their for 5 years before announcing that they had filed for Chapter 11. The store which housed Donaldson's, Carson Pirie Scott, Mervyn's, and Steve & Barry's was split into two, (by level) and is now occupied by Dick's Sporting Goods and Gordmans. Another store in the mall which has been housed by multiple stores is Macy's. It was originally a Dayton's and then a Marshall Fields'. The mall is three floors which includes the third floor food court which can occupy up to 16 tenants. Currently, the mall is one of the biggest in Minnesota and competes with Southdale Center, the Mall of America, and The Galleria. Due to its size, Mall of America gets the most business with Burnsville Center in second. Like Ridgedale Center, the two remaining original anchors are JCPenney's and Sears. |
